Channel 5 respond over Celebrity Big Brother 'voting trickery'

Celebrity Big Brother

Channel 5 has issued a statement over claims that stars of Geordie Shore have been tricking fans into voting for Scotty T on Celebrity Big Brother.

One member of the show's cast, Gaz Beadle, has apparently been sending Snapchat messages misleadingly getting his followers to vote for his pal to win the show.

"Get ready to screen shot the next snap," one message read. "Call me now in the GShore house on 6****3," the next message that followed said.

In fact, the number posted was the mobile shortcode that when dialled would register a vote for Scotty T to win Celebrity Big Brother and cost the user 50p.

Channel 5 said in a statement this evening: "We’ve been made aware of an individual’s post on Snapchat which may have led people to unwittingly call the phone line to vote for Scotty T.

"The Snapchat user has no connection with the Celebrity Big Brother production team or Channel 5."

They added: "We contacted the poster in question to demand the post is removed. If any voters have inadvertently called the Celebrity Big Brother voting lines as a direct result of this post, we would ask them to get in contact with us before midnight tonight (Thursday 4th February 2016)."

Anyone 'tricked' into voting can contact Channel 5 on customerservices@channel5.com or via 0208 612 7700.

The Celebrity Big Brother 2016 final airs Friday night.
