Brian Dowling has been axed as the host of Big Brother 2013, replaced by Emma Willis, but is it a good move?
After just two years fronting the series on Channel 5, bosses confirmed today that Brian would no longer be presenting the aging reality telly show.
According to The Sun last month, Channel offered his job to Emma Willis – who previously hosted spin-off Big Brother’s Bit On The Side – in a bid to recapture the ‘glamour’ and ‘buzz’ of its former presenter Davina McCall.
Today, Emma was over the moon with her appointment, saying: "I am thrilled to have been offered this job. I'm a fan first and foremost so to be able to front the show is going to be amazing. Roll on the summer!"
Channel 5's director of programmes Ben Frow said: "Emma is a natural on screen, she's made the spinoff show her own and now the time is totally right for her to step up. I know she'll take Big Brother to the next level and I can't wait to see her dealing with the housemates both famous and soon to be famous.
"I'd also like to thank Brian Dowling for doing such a sterling job over the last two years. He's been a big part of the success of the show and I wish him the very best."
But is the switch a good one?
While we do love Emma, we can't help but feel she was brilliant as a host on Bit On The Side where she could be a lot more honest, spontaneous and ultimately rather rude.
Her interview questions were the ones most viewers really wanted answered, as opposed to the watered-down pleasantries asked on the main show.
On the other hand, we were never really sure why Brian was given the main presenting job over Emma in the first place.
His previously presenting experience on ITV's short lived midnight game show The Mint was hardly giving the likes of Dermot O'Leary a run for his money.
