Justin Lee Collins has quit Celebrity Big Brother 2013, before it even began.
It was reported last week that the comedian, who was recently convicted of harassing his ex-girlfriend, had been offered £100,000 to take part in the show.
A source said: “He has done wrong but he has done his community service and going on the show could be the break he needs.”
The news was met with anger from Justin's ex girlfriend and her family, who set up a petition to have him blocked from entering the house.
Today a spokesperson for the former Friday Night Project host confirmed that he had pulled out of the show.
They commented: “There has been much speculation about whether Justin Lee Collins will be entering the Celebrity Big Brother house.
“He was approached by the programme and although he was thrilled to have been asked, he declined the offer several weeks ago.”
However added: “To be clear, this decision is in no way connected to Alex Larke’s [Justin's ex-girlfriend's brother] petition.”
Alex commented: “I’m just so relieved because it would have sent out the wrong message to everyone.”
Celebrity Big Brother kicks off on January 3 on Channel 5.
