I’m A Celebrity 2019: Andrew Maxwell’s Dingo Dollar disagreement sparks tension

Comedian miffed after group overruled him - but he was eventually proven wrong

Andrew Maxwell threw a strop on I’m A Celebrity 2019 yesterday when the group overruled him on a Dingo Dollar Challenge question.

While the campmates have enjoyed two full-house meals recently thanks to their Bushtucker Trial efforts, it’s been a few days since they had a tasty treat.

Kate Garraway and Roman Kemp set out to remedy that when they arrived at a gameshow set for a Dingo Dollar Challenge.

“One of you must become the jungle quizmaster, for the other correct answers might end in disaster,” their instructions read.

“Which campmate is A, B, C? Find out the truth to set the dingo dollars free.”

The player had to answer the questions by sitting in chairs in front of the corresponding letter. Wrong answers would result in them being blasted with powder paint.

Several coats later, they won the $100 in prize money they required to release the Dingo Dollars, and headed off to the Outback Shack.

Faced with Kiosk Kev’s offer of jelly beans or salted nuts, the duo opted for the sweet treat.

The shopkeeper then called main camp with the teaser question, asking what percentage of the British public do not trust politicians.

Debating options of 59% or 79%, everyone swayed towards the higher number – except Andrew.

Camp leader James Haskell initiated a vote, and with the majority on his side, he instructed Andy Whyment to answer 79%.

Despite being overruled by the group, Andrew protested, claiming they hadn’t debated the question properly.

“Not everyone put their hands up,” he sniped. “It’s just as shambolic as ever, we’re not getting chocolate.”

Cliff Parisi urged him to ‘Let It Go’ by singing the Frozen favourite, while Adele Roberts, Ian Wright and Nadine Coyle argued that the celebs should go with their gut reactions.

The tension bothered James, who commented: Everyone’s tired, everyone’s a bit chippy, everyone’s had a long day, things happen.

“I’m just mortified if [Andrew] thinks I just closed him down.”

The rugby player cleared the air with the comedian, who reacted: “I said my piece, everyone said their piece, and big James gave me a hug, job done.”

However, Andrew was left with egg on his face when Kate and James triumphantly returned to Snake Rock with the sweets.

“Thank God for Adele, thank God people didn’t listen to me,” he said sheepishly.
