Len Goodman isn’t a fan of Strictly Come Dancing’s routines these days

Len Goodman has confessed he’s not the biggest fan of Strictly Come Dancing’s latest routines.

The ballroom legend was a judge on the BBC One series for more than a decade up until 2016.

And in a new interview, he’s admitted he struggled as the show introduced more and more changes to its dances.

He told the Daily Mirror newspaper he wasn’t fond of the ‘raunchy’ routines or over the top theatrics.

Len explained: “It’s not only sex, I used to hate it even if a swing was involved and they were sitting on a swing. And props, going down on one knee, giving them a rose. Get on with it!”

He told the tabloid he wanted the contest to go “back to its roots”.

Len continued: “I don’t want to judge strange dancing. It wasn’t about technique or anything, it was all about the performance, and I didn’t want to judge just on performance.

“I remember somebody taking half the routine to get down the stairs.

“It was when Craig had a bad hip, and I said, ‘Craig would’ve got down quicker than you’.”

Len also confessed he wasn’t happy with having to open the show with a dance alongside his fellow judges.

“I was anti that. I’m there as a judge, I’m not there as anything else,” Len said. “And we never had a chance to rehearse. I used to have to come prancing out with Bruno, and he hated it too.

“Craig loved doing a few spins. But I used to say, ‘Why are we doing this? I don’t like it’.

“But you have to do basically what the producers tell you, and that was one of the things you had to do. We kept it to a minimum, Bruno and I, we just walked out more or less. That part of it used to get on my nerves in the end.”

Len still appears on Dancing With The Stars in the US, but has hinted he won’t be renewing his current contract when it’s up at the end of the year.
