A family getaway in Europe ended with an emergency operation after Amanda broke her leg in two places.

She was rushed to hospital where surgeons fitted a metal plate to help fix the break.

Amanda said in a statement in response to tabloid reports about the accident: “Sadly this is true. I suffered a nasty accident while climbing with the family during our half-term holiday and subsequently broke my leg in two places.

“I had an operation on Friday and a metal plate was fitted.”

However it seems as though Amanda is keen to get back on her feet as soon as possible, pledging to return to work hosting Heart FM’s Breakfast show next Monday.

She phoned into the show this morning (Tuesday, October 22), saying: “I just can’t believe what’s happened… on the first day here as well so I’m just totally gutted.”

Amanda explained: “There’s like a children’s Total Wipeout thing in the middle of the sea… I walked around it and then crawled across like an old person, like across the difficult bits.

“I was showing off – I made it across to the other side and then my leg slipped ’cause obviously its wet and it went the other way and I felt it break.

“I was rushed to hospital and I’ve got a metal plate and screws in my leg which currently is the fastest and easiest way for it to heal. I haven’t got a cast I’ve got like metal in my leg and a splint and it’s all wrapped up and it’s got a heartbeat in it.”

She added: “I am on crutches and I am in a wheelchair and Chris [Amanda’s husband] bless him has pushed me to dinner every night in a wheelchair.”

Alongside her radio work, Amanda recently wrapped up filming on Britain’s Got Talent: The Champions which concluded earlier this month on ITV.

Meanwhile, Amanda is set to soon turn her talents to another endeavour as she releases an album.

Amanda, who has appeared in London’s West End in musicals such as Thoroughly Modern Millie, revealed earlier this year she would be heading into the recording studio.

She shared a picture of herself signing a contract with Virgin EMI Records.

Amanda wrote at the time: “Bloody thrilled to confirm I have signed an amazing record deal with @VIRGINEMI -It has been a lifetimes dream!!!!! Just cannot wait to get started ….”

Now Amanda has described the record as a “dream come true”, saying it will be a “properly classy, lovely album.”

Amanda’s record deal follows a video of her singing The Greatest Showman song Tightrope notching up 1.5 million hits online.

It was recently reported that Simon Cowell had invited Amanda to sing on the Britain’s Got Talent live shows to promote the album.
