Lights, camera, action! Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman hosted Strictly Come Dancing’s first themed week this evening as the 14 remaining couples performed routines inspired by some of the greatest films of all time.

Tonight’s episode opened with a homage to the Pixar movies, as the professional dancers recreated scenes from some of the most iconic animated films in a truly magical group routine.

After saying goodbye to the first couple last weekend, the pressure was building for the remaining celebrities and their professional dancers as they took to the dancefloor in a bid to impress the judges, Shirley Ballas, Motsi Mabuse, Bruno Tonioli and Craig Revel Horwood.

This weekend saw some standout routines led by Kelvin Fletcher and Oti Mabuse who danced the Charleston to Trip A Little Light Fantastic by Lin Manuel Miranda from Mary Poppins Returns.

The performance scored them the best marks so far with the first tens of the series making up a total of 38 out of 40 points.

Dev Griffin and Dianne danced a Street Couples’ Choice routine to Friend Like Me by Will Smith from Aladdin to place second on the scoreboard with 36 points while Michelle Visage and Giovanni Pernice were just behind with 35 points for their Quickstep to Cabaret by Liza Minelli from Cabaret.

Also having a good week, Catherine Tyldesley and Johannes Radebe’s Rumba saw them score their personal best marks yet with 32 points.

Emma Weymouth, Saffron Barker and Emma Barton all enjoyed personal bests for their latest routines but last week’s leader Karim Zeroual slipped down the rankings with 26 points for his Samba.

At the other end of the leaderboard, Mike Bushell and Katya Jones had a bit of a dance disaster performing the Cha Cha to It’s Raining Men by The Weather Girls from Magic Mike. They scored 18 points for the routine which saw Katya take an unfortunate trip on the dancefloor.

However it was Anneka Rice and David James who found themselves in the bottom two of the judges’ scores.

David struggled with an American Smooth, although did improve his marks week-on-week with 16 points, while the judges found few positives to say about Anneka’s Kill Bill themed Charleston, scoring the routine just 11 points.

However the judges’ marks are only one half of the story.

The judges’ marks from the live show will now be combined with the results from the latest public vote.

The two celebrity couples in the bottom two of the overall rankings will find themselves having to dance again in tomorrow night’s (Sunday) results show.

After appearing in the dance off last weekend, David is tipped to face the bottom two again but will the judges give him another chance?
