Connie won the nation’s hearts as an adorable six-year-old on the ITV talent contest’s first series in 2007.

Well remembered for her performance of ‘Somewhere Over The Rainbow’, she eventually reached the grand final, finishing behind Paul Potts.

Twelve years later, she is now back for The Champions, a spin-off in which past contestants compete against international Got Talent stars.

“When I look back, it is like it’s a different person. I was so small and had no teeth,” she commented. “I still can’t believe I made it to the final.”

Now 18, Connie chose to return with an original song – a bold move when you’re playing to 6,000 people at Wembley Arena.

“It sounds like a relationship song, but it’s actually about never giving up on my dream,” she explained.

“It is a bit of a risk to put yourself back in front of the judges. Winning Britain’s Got Talent: The Champions would be a perfect ending.”

This time, Connie also accompanied herself on a grand piano, with Amanda Holden exclaiming “oh my God” as she emerged on stage.

The audience illuminated the arena with their phones and cheered as she hit high notes with her powerful vocals.

After a standing ovation, the judges expressed shock at just how much Connie has changed.

“I’m blown away by that performance and what a gorgeous, gorgeous young lady you have grown up to be,” remarked Amanda.

“I always think it is a very brave thing to sing an original song, but it was on point, beautifully down. You’ve done yourself proud, I was so emotional during that.”

Simon Cowell then exclaimed: “Connie, you have teeth!

“There were two auditions that stuck in my mind that year: Paul Potts, and you. I don’t think we’d be sitting here today if it wasn’t for you, so we owe a massive thank you.”

Meanwhile, David Walliams joked: “Twelve years ago, I was allowed to stay up late. I sat on my mother’s knee watching your performance. It nearly killed her, I was 35 at the time!

“You’re one of those acts that’s never forgotten. I can see a huge future ahead of you.”

While Connie did not receive the Golden Buzzer from this week’s chosen judge, Amanda, the ‘superfan panel’ may still vote her through to the final.

Ant and Dec will reveal the result of the audience poll later in tonight’s episode on ITV.
