Love Island 2019 contestants’ claims to fame revealed

The new Love Island 2019 contestants have spilled their beans on their celeb credentials – including famous siblings and an encounter with a One Direction superstar.

Last night, ITV2 finally revealed the identities of the twelve singles arriving in Spain at the start of the new series.

And while the show isn’t returning to the days of Celebrity Love Island, some of them do have claims to fame.

The most recognisable face is arguably Curtis Pritchard, brother of Strictly Come Dancing professional AJ.

Curtis is also a ballroom dancer, who competes on Dancing With The Stars, Ireland’s version of the BBC favourite.

He’s not the only islander with a famous sibling. Boxer Tommy Fury is the brother of controversial heavyweight champion Tyson – and now he wants to make a name for himself.

“I’ve said it throughout my whole boxing career. I don’t want to be labelled as his little brother,” Tommy proclaimed.

“I’m my own man, I’m doing the best that I can do in life and that’s all I’m setting out to achieve.”

Meanwhile, there could be a big celebrity name drop moment from Amy Hart.

The air hostess once had an encounter with 1D’s Liam Payne that his fans blew out of proportion.

“I went on a night out once and Liam was there. We were in the VIP bit,” she explained. “He told us to come and sit in his booth and we had a picture together.

“My cousin who was twelve and a big fan put it on her Instagram and suddenly I was on all these international One Direction accounts.

“I was getting hate from ten- year-olds because they thought I was dating him!”

Some of the newbies have connections to past Love Island stars.

Surfer Lucie Donlan previously dated Charlie Frederick from last year’s series. “We got together a few weeks after he came out of the villa,” she recalled.

Amber Gill is mates with Adam Collard and Ellie Brown. “Everyone knows everyone in Newcastle!” she grinned.

There are two sportsmen in semi-professional rugby players Joe Garratt and Sherif Lanre – while pharmacist Anna Valiki’s brush with a football player made a splash in Iran.

“I ended up on the Iranian news earlier this year,” she revealed. “My sister and I were away in Qatar with two Iranian footballers who have a huge following.

“Suddenly my followers went up by 20,000 and I started being tagged in fan pages!”

The launch line-up also features scientist Yewande Biala, gym owner Anton Danyluk, firefighter Michael Griffiths and aircraft engineer Callum MacLeod.

Love Island returns to ITV2 for its fifth run on Monday at 9.00pm.
