Love Island’s Adam Collard and Zara McDermott have split
Love Island couple Adam Collard and Zara McDermott have announced they’ve split.
The contestants from last year’s series have become the third Love Island pair to split in just a month after Megan Barton Hanson’s breakup from Wes Nelson and Josh Denzel and Kazimir Crossley’s separation.
Unlike the other couples, Adam and Zara didn’t make the final but were instead eliminated earlier on in the series.
They looked to be going strong but Zara took to social media today (Monday, 11 February) to announce it was over between them.
She wrote: “I am heartbroken to announce that Adam and I have parted ways.
“I love him very much and will always have a special place in my heart for him & our time spent together. I have tried so hard to be the best person I can possibly be and to make it work.
“Sometimes in life, you just aren’t enough for someone; no matter what you do for them or how much you try to be.”
She added: “For everyone asking if I’m ok, I don’t know that I am. But I know that soon I will be. I will be strong and prove to myself that I can get through this. Love always, Zara x.”
The news follows rumours of recent rows between the now former couple.
“They do still love each other and are trying to make their relationship work but things have not been good recently,” a source claimed to The Sun newspaper last week.
Now the only Love Island couple still together are winners Dani Dyer & Jack Fincham, although they too have been plagued by split rumours.
However in their recent ITVBe reality series, they hit back at the speculation about their romance insisting it’s a “real relationship”.
Jack said: “In the villa you’re surrounded by people 24/7 that are massively supportive and will always give you positive advice. But then you’re in the big bad world. So you have the mixture of positive and negative. Basically it’s a real relationship now which is where you take the rough with the smooth, like anything in life.
Dani added: “Relationships in the villa are probably always going to be perfect, because you’re in a surreal situation. That’s all you have, each other. There is nothing outside to affect that. You come out of the villa and then have to re-learn about each other. In the outside world you have a job to wake up to and everything hits you like a lightning bolt.
“You’re learning more about each other and you’re also dealing with the life you live now. It’s not a normal relationship anymore, it’s a very public one and you’re also trying to figure out what you want to be. It’s about keeping the right balance.”
Love Island will return for what will be a fifth season this summer on ITV2.
