Simon Cowell makes cheeky Spice Girls dig at Britain’s Got Talent 2019 auditions

Music supremo reportedly calls girl group "singing dogs"

Simon Cowell has reportedly been making fun of the Spice Girls at the Britain’s Got Talent 2018 auditions – calling them “singing dogs”.

Filming for the new series of the ITV talent contest recently began, with a range of weird and wonderful acts trying to win four yesses from the judges.

According to the Daily Star, one of the more bonkers acts to take the stage earlier this month was a group of four friends dressed as dogs.

The quartet performed the annoyingly catchy children’s hit ‘Baby Shark’.

However, Simon wasn’t terribly impressed with the try-out, and decided to have some fun at the Spice Girls’ expense.

“There have been a few singing dogs over the years. Have you seen the Spice Girls?” he apparently joked.

The remark came after recently he told one America’s Got Talent hopeful who covered the girlband’s hit ‘Wannabe’: “To give you credit, you do sound better than the original.”

Despite what the comments may suggest, Simon is pals with the girls, and sits alongside Mel B on the AGT judging panel.

The Syco boss has also listed his failure to sign them as one of his biggest career regrets.

“I offered them a deal, but they didn’t want to sign to me, so that kind of hurt at the time,” he said in 2013.

It’s currently unclear whether the singing dogs made it through to the next round.

While some of this year’s contestants have left the judges scratching their heads, others have made them emotional.

One recent auditionee reportedly stunned the theatre when she revealed herself to be a survivor of the Grenfell Tower tragedy.

Meanwhile, Simon was “moved” by a choir made up of Iraq war veterans.

The thirteenth series of Britain’s Got Talent begins on ITV in the Spring. The show typically begins in April.
