James Jordan hits back at Dancing On Ice critics

James Jordan has hit back at claims he has an unfair advantage on Dancing On Ice.

The former Strictly Come Dancing pro dancer is one of twelve celebs competing in this year's show.

He made his debut on the ice last Sunday night, where he scored top marks.

James has faced criticism for competing in the competition given his dance background, but insists it offers him no advantage.

He said this weekend: "It’s completely unfair to say that having me on the show makes it a fix. What people don’t realise is that the way you move your body on ice is completely different to how you move it as a dancer.

“If I positioned my feet the way I dance in the same way on skates I would fall on my face."

In an interview with The Sun newspaper, James went on: “I’ve had to re-learn everything. Yes, I have improved since I started training but so have all the other contestants. And what I’ve learned is that ice skating is really, really difficult.

“At the beginning I was wearing all the hockey gear like knee pads because I had a massive fear of falling over and breaking something.

“It took me at least a month to get over that and develop some confidence, but I still worry about losing my balance.

“I want to skate faster and be more graceful but just turning on skates is scary and it really hurts when you fall. And my background actually counts against me in some ways.

Following the first live show, James has been installed as the favourite to win.

Aoife Heffron, Spokesperson for bookies BoyleSports commented: “James Jordan unsurprisingly gave a showstopping performance on the ice on the opening night of Dancing On Ice and despite some criticism online for his professional dance background, punters have begun to get behind him to win, backing him all the way in from 11/2 to the 2/1 new favourite.”

Dancing On Ice 2019 will return this Sunday as the remaining six celeb skaters make their debut.
