The BBC Newsreader was reportedly asked by Strictly bosses to consider signing up for this year’s show.

It follows Huw making a guest appearance on last year’s series, where he met the pro dancers and backstage staff.

In a chat on Radio 2 with Steve Wright, Huw said earlier this year: “Following my stellar appearance reading out the terms and conditions in early December, where I basically set the British television world alight, I was asked if I’d consider Strictly.

“And I think the answer is, Steve, I’ve come here today for some advice. Despite all appearances, I am quite shy.”

Huw admitted that he was most worried about the show’s sparkling outfits.

“That’s what scares me. I think I’ve just got to ponder it . . . just gauge public opinion,” he added.

But speaking at the TV BAFTAs on Sunday, Huw seemed to have ruled out the show this year.

“I’d have a conversation about it. I think in all honesty I think it’s a difficult thing to do in my day-to-day job,” he said. “That’s the strongest hint I can give you.

“Combined with being BBC’s chief news anchor would be quite difficult. In future, when my professional life might be in a different shape, maybe it would look like a different kind of challenge.

Huw added to the Daily Express newspaper: “Am I terrified by the thought of it? Yes. Do my kids want me to do it? No. All of these are different kinds of factors aren’t they?”

As for who could be on the Strictly line up this year, it was reported earlier in 2019 that Vogue Williams could take part.

The model and TV presenter, who recently welcomed her first child with husband Spencer Matthews, is said to be in talks for this year’s series.

Other celebrities rumoured already include TV and radio host Fearne Cotton, who recently stepped down from Celebrity Juice after ten years, and X Factor star Olly Murs.
