He’s suggested the show is worse for behind the scenes romances than Strictly Come Dancing, but they’ve been kept under the radar.

In a new interview, Jason said of flings between Dancing On Ice’s stars: “We’ve had loads.”

He told the Daily Star: “We’ve had loads of those. We just don’t make a song and dance about it.”

Ahead of the new series starting this Sunday night on ITV, a source added to the tabloid: “It seems that there was a lot more going on backstage at the ice rink than fans got to know about.

“Clearly Dancing On Ice is worse than Strictly. All eyes will be on the new batch of stars getting their skates on.”

Meanwhile, Jason has said we may see a new side to his judging style this year.

“I think the show has moved on itself and I’ve moved on,” he explained. “That said, I maintain that I will always give my honest appraisal. I think the approach that I’m finding works for me now is that it’s got to be tempered with my expert knowledge.

“I feel that as I am almost 50, I feel a little more paternal anyway so that side of me is coming out in my life and translates across everything.”

The celebs on the Dancing On Ice line up for 2019 are soap star Jane Danson & Sylvain Longchambon, X Factor singer Saara Aalto & Hamish Gaman, TOWIE’s Gemma Collins & Matt Evers, Pussycat Doll Melody Thornton & Alexander Demetriou and Grease legend Didi Conn & Lukasz Rozycki.

Joining them are Loose Women’s Saira Khan & Mark Hanretty, singer Brian McFadden & Alex Murphy, cricketer Ryan Sidebottom & Brandee Malto, Neighbours star Mark Little & Brianne Delcourt, actor Richard Blackwood & Carlotta Edwards, dancer James Jordan & Alexandra Schauman and Love Island’s Wes Nelson & Vanessa Bauer
