Gareth Gates has revealed he turned down I'm A Celebrity.

The singer, best known as the runner up in 2001's Pop Idol, says he was also repeatedly asked to take part in the now axed Celebrity Big Brother.

And while Gareth wouldn't rule out ever appearing in the jungle, he says that reality TV is not currently his focus.

Gareth said this week: "I was asked to do the [I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here!] jungle years and years ago but it wasn't really the right timing for me. Never say never. I was asked to do Big Brother literally every year but that never really appealed to me that much."

He explained: "I'm not sure how many are left that I like now. I'd love to do something like Strictly [Come Dancing], or something like that. I think if you've done Dancing on Ice, you can only do one or the other.

"Maybe there will be a place for me on Strictly one day, we'll see."

Speaking to DigitalSpy, Gareth said he preferred to stick to his current musical roles.

"For the last eight or nine years, I've been doing lots of musical theatre and big West End shows, like Joseph, Legally Blonde and Les Misérables. I really enjoy that kind of performing," he told the website. "In terms of reality shows, I'm always asked to do them but I try to stick to the ones where you have to earn a skill – like Dancing on Ice where you have to put the hard work in.

Gareth is far from the only celeb to say no to I'm A Celebrity.

Piers Morgan says he turned down 'a lot of money' to appear in the jungle. The Good Morning Britain presenter suggested no amount would get him on the show.

"I've been offered lots of money for these things. To go and eat bugs," he said on the ITV show. "They say 'Hey, do you want to go to a jungle in Australia and eat kangaroo testicles as Ant and Dec mock you?'. No thanks."

Actor Warwick Davis also said this year he had turned down the show. The TV and film star, famous for his roles in movies such as Star Wars and Harry Potter, says he doesn't ever see himself in the jungle. Warwick said: "I get asked to do a lot of reality shows. I love watching them but they don't appeal to me as a performer.

"I'm A Celebrity got in touch, but I didn't even find out what I would be getting paid."
