A whopping 11 MILLION viewers tuned in to I'm A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! last night - making it the show's highest-rating launch in five years.

ITV's jungle reality favourite averaged 11.1million viewers and a 51.4% audience share between 9.00pm and 10.45pm, including +1.

This makes it the most watched opener since the 2013 series, which began with 12million viewers.

It also represents an increase of 750,000 viewers on last year's launch.

The peak audience came at 9.30pm, when 11.9million people witnessed the celebs completing the show's highest tower challenge ever.

Buzz around I'm A Celebrity's eighteenth run is higher than normal due to the absence of long-time host Ant McPartlin.

His right-hand man Dec Donnelly has instead been joined by their close pal Holly Willoughby.

In addition, fans have praised the contestant line-up after bosses splashed the cash to secure some of the biggest names ever.

John Barrowman, Nick Knowles and Harry Redknapp are among the ten famous faces already in camp.

Telly legend Noel Edmonds is due to join the group as a late entrant in the coming days.

X Factor & Strictly Come Dancing

I'm A Celebrity's huge success meant it topped fellow entertainment juggernaut Strictly Come Dancing last night.

The ballroom bonanza's Blackpool Week results episode averaged 9million viewers for BBC One.

A peak of 10.4million saw Kate Silverton and Aljaž Škorjanec become the latest couple to get the chop.

Afterwards, The X Factor's results averaged 4.8million viewers on ITV (21.6%, including +1).

The show featured a performance from Cheryl and saw bookies' favourite Shan controversially leave the competition.

It was up from the 4.2million that tuned in for last Sunday's instalment of the Simon Cowell talent contest.

However, it still lost to BBC One's Dynasties, with 6million viewers watching the David Attenborough documentary.

I'm A Celebrity continues tonight at 9.00pm on ITV, when Emily Atack will face the first Bushtucker Trial.
