Fewer than a million viewers watched the Big Brother 2018 final last night.

The last ever series – which had launched to 900,000 viewers at the start of September – finished with an average audience of just 700,000.

It’s Big Brother’s least watched final by far, down 300,000 viewers on last year and 800,000 belown 2016.

Throughout its run, the show found itself shunted around the schedules, airing at various times between 9PM and 10:30PM, with some episodes finishing at midnight.

Overall, Big Brother averaged around 700,000 viewers based on overnight figures this year – down around 100,000 on 2017 – it’s least watched series ever.

While in comparison to its own past ratings it may have been down, production company Endemol say the show helped increase Channel 5’s slot average for the key 16-34 demographic by 151%.

Nevertheless, the channel previously announced it was the last series to air on its network, marking an end for Big Brother after 18 years on UK TV.

Although there’s been speculation Big Brother could move to a new home, nothing is confirmed.

Speaking ahead of the final on Monday, host Emma Willis said: “It’s hard to know what’s going to happen in fact it’s impossible to know what will happen with the show. All we can go on are the facts at this time and the facts, at this moment in time, is that the show is over.

“In my head, I’m treating tonight like the last ever show I do on Big Brother which is really difficult.”

It was Cameron who won Big Brother 2018 in Monday’s results, taking home the £100,000 prize fund. He beat Akeem Griffiths in the final two while Zoe Jones finished third and Cian Carrigan ranked in fourth.
