I’m A Celebrity 2018 bosses threatened to QUIT famous jungle site over council fine

ITV reportedly threatened to pull I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! out of its famous jungle location after disputing a £100,000 fine imposed by the local council.

The much-loved reality show has been filmed in Springbrook National Park near Murwillumbah in Australia for the last fifteen years.

However, a recent spat between ITV and the local council almost saw the famous celeb camp move elsewhere.

According to The Daily Star, movements of the trucks and cars that transport crew and equipment around the jungle site were limited to 80 per day following complaints from locals.

Over the last year, this restriction has been breached at least 36 times – prompting Tweed Shire Council to impose a £100,000 fine.

But after ITV producers disputed the matter, the whopping sum was reduced to just £3,000.

The council has also agreed to work with the company to revise the limit.

Tweed Shire deputy mayor Chris Cherry said: “(We have been) trying to find the balance between supporting this successful production company and the employment it brings to our community and the needs of the local residents.”

I’m A Celebrity is an extensive operation, requiring a crew of over 500 staff members.

The filming site includes a production base, the treehouse studio, two different camps – Snake Rock and Croc Creek – and several clearings where challenges and Bushtucker Trials take place.

It is home to the UK original and the German version, which has run since 2004.

Two years ago, ITV resolved a separate dispute with the owner of the land. At the time, reports suggested they’d become too frustrated with accommodating the show.

I’m A Celebrity will return to the channel for its eighteenth series in a matter of weeks.

Holly Willoughby will co-host the latest run with Dec Donnelly amid his right-hand man Ant McPartlin’s extended break from TV.
