Louis left The X Factor – seemingly for good, this time – after 13 years ahead of the new series.

He said at the time: I’ve had a fantastic 13 years on The X Factor but the show needs a change and I’m ready to leave. I’m looking forward to another series of Ireland’s Got Talent, going back to my day job as a manager, writing my memoirs and seeing the world!”

Speaking about the show this week, Louis said he’s still watching X Factor as he took aim at its Saturday night TV rival.

“I have nothing negative to say about X Factor, it’s the best show in the world,” Louis commented, “Strictly? That’s for older people, I watch X Factor.”

In an interview with the Daily Mirror newspaper, Louis went on to praise the new judges made up of Robbie Williams, Louis Tomlinson and Ayda Williams alongside Simon Cowell.

“Of course I’ve been watching. Robbie is great, I’ve loved Robbie,” he said. “I’m not saying anything bad. I talked to Simon twice today.”

Louis also spoke about Sharon Osborne, who was due to join the show as a fifth judge for the live shows.

He added: “I love Mrs O, we are best friends. Laid and paid that’s us, that’s our new name. I spoke to her today.”

A spokesperson for The X Factor confirmed earlier this month that Sharon would no longer take part in this year’s series as originally planned.

“The X Factor can confirm Sharon Osbourne has decided not to return to this year’s show,” said. “Sharon will always be a big part of The X Factor family and we wish her all the best for the future.”

Sharon commented in a statement: “After watching the new season of X Factor unfold, I’ve seen the new judges finding their rhythm and are doing brilliantly. Simon was so gracious to find me a spot on the live shows but at this point I really don’t think I’m needed and I would honestly feel odd coming in at this point. So I have decided to pass on the series this year.

“I wish the show continued success and as much as I love to get my face on TV you will have to do without me this season.

The X Factor 2018 continues Saturday and Sunday night on ITV.
