Rylan Clark-Neal has slammed the decision to axe Big Brother after almost 20 years on TV.

The show is currently airing nightly on Channel 5 but it's set to be the final Big Brother on UK telly for the foreseeable future after the channel dropped the show.

Channel 5 announced at the start of the series: "The forthcoming series of Big Brother will be the last - of either celebrity or civilian versions - on Channel 5. We’d like to thank Endemol and all of the production team who have worked tirelessly to make the show a success."

They added: "We’d also like to thank our brilliant presenters - Emma on Big Brother and Rylan from Bit on the Side - for their consummate professionalism, Marcus, the voice of Big Brother and all of the housemates who have created so many memorable moments.

"Most importantly, we’d like to thank fans of the show for their support over the last seven years. We look forward to giving the final series a brilliant send-off."

Rylan, who won the Celebrity series and now hosts spin-off Bit On The Side, has taken aim at the decision to drop the show.

In a world where so-called 'structured reality shows' like Love Island are taking over, Rylan said: "Big Brother is the only real reality show left."

He told The Sun newspaper at the Specsavers Spectacle Wearer of the Year Award: “We don’t tell them what to do. They do what they do themselves. All we ask them to do is take part in tasks. We don’t tell them, ‘Can you just move to the right and say that again?’. We don't do that.

“And why the f*** would you want to take the only real reality show on the telly off the telly, I do not know.”

Rylan's comments come as Channel 5 set the final date for Big Brother.

The last series will conclude on Monday, November 5 on Channel 5 after 53 days.

Titled 'Goodbye Big Brother: The Live Final', the BBUK final will air in the one show between 10PM and 11:15PM with host Emma Willis.

Although the show will no longer air on Channel 5 there have been some rumours it may move to streaming service Netflix.

For the time being, Big Brother airs Sunday-Friday nights at 10PM on Channel 5.
