The Circle was a brand new reality show for the social media age, with up to a £75,000 prize up for grabs.
The Circle’s players all lived in the same building but lived in completely separate apartments. Living just inches away from each other, they couldn't see or hear one another and never met their competitors face to face while playing the game.
Instead, they had to communicate only using a specially-designed voice automated social media platform, called The Circle.
Over three weeks, the players rated one another with those proving the most popular becoming 'influencers' and wielding the power to eliminate contestants by 'blocking' them.
In the final there were four contestants left: Alex, a 26-year-old from London playing as Kate (his girlfriend), Dan, a 28-year-old from London playing as himself, Freddie, a 20-year-old from Essex playing as himself, but 'playing it straight' and Sian, a 20-year-old from London playing as "plain Jane" version of herself.
On Monday night they rated one another for the last time before the results were revealed as the most popular contestant amongst the players was announced.
It was announced by hosts Alice Levine and Maya Jama that the WINNER of The Circle on Channel 4 was Alex. He took home the £50,000 prize fund.
As well as the main prize there was a further £25,000 up for grabs for the 'viewers' champion'.
Fans of the show - who knew the truth about all the contestants - were able to cast a vote for their favourite via the show's app.
Alex also won the viewer vote in the final making him the people's champion. As a result, he took home the extra £25,000 for a total of £75,000.
Elsewhere in the final, the four contestants came face to face for the first time.
There was a huge shock for both Dan and Sian as Alex revealed himself to be the person they knew as Kate, while Freddie insisted he 'knew it'.
