Prue Leith and Paul Hollywood are back as judges of The Great British Bake Off when it returns to screens tonight on Channel 4.

Prue and Paul will be joined by GBBO hosts Sandi Toksvig OBE and Noel Fielding for what is their second series together.

As always, they’ll be ready with a pertinent pep talk, a helpful hand or just a sympathetic shoulder to cry on, for the ninth series overall of the cooking competition.

12 of the best amateur bakers in the country started the show on a journey to whisk, knead, ice, beat and bake their way through classic British cakes, perfect patisserie, Danish delights, sticky caramel constructions and elaborate layered puddings.

In order to take the Bake Off Crown, they must master 30 challenges carefully designed by judges Paul and Prue to test their limits.

Last week’s episode – Bread Week – saw Antony become the third contestant to leave the tent while Rahul won the star baker award for a second week running. Can he make it a hat trick in tonight’s show?

This evening it’s time for another set of brand new challenges.

It’s Dessert Week and judges Prue and Paul have set three sticky tasks to test the remaining nine bakers.

There is a cracking meringue Signature; a wobbly Technical that breaks the mould; and a complex chocolate Showstopper that promises to reveal all. Which bakers impress Prue and Paul enough to keep their place in the tent? And who will be heading home?
