The Bachelor UK revealed ahead of its return to Channel 5 in 2019

Channel 5 has announced The Bachelor UK is returning in 2019, hosted by Mark Wright.

The dating contest sees single women compete to win the affections of one hunky eligible bachelor.

Each week, the Bachelor gives roses to the ladies he wants to stick around – while those who don’t get one are immediately eliminated.

It originally ran in the UK on BBC Three between 2003 and 2005, before moving to Channel 5 in 2011.

C5’s first series was a success, with 1.6million viewers tuning in to see rugby player Gavin Henson choose Carianne Barrow as his then-girlfriend.

However, ratings collapsed below the million mark for the follow-up run in 2012, which featured reality star Spencer Matthews.

Now, six years later, the broadcaster is reviving The Bachelor for the second time.

Channel 5 posted a teaser on Twitter previously, writing: “Love. Worth fighting for. The Bachelor UK is coming to Channel 5 soon. ? #TheBachelorUK”

Mark Wright will host the show, which will air across 10 episodes.

As for the identity of the The Bachelor UK, that’s 31-year-old Alex Marks.

Alex runs his own personal training studio in South London. He is looking for the love of his life and hopes to settle down and start a family.

Alex will get to pick between 17 potential partners when The Bachelor UK returns to TV. The series will be hitting Channel 5 on Monday 4th March at 10pm.

It was previously claimed that Channel 5 hoped the show could replicate the success of Love Island, while also serving as a partial replacement for Big Brother, which has been given the axe.

While The Bachelor has struggled to break through in the UK, it has been a hit around the world.

In its native United States, the show is about to enter its 23rd season and has spawned several spin-offs, including gender-swapped version The Bachelorette.

Meanwhile, the Australian incarnation of the franchise is one of the highest-rating programmes on Network Ten.
