Celebrity Big Brother axed? Rylan reveals fate of the show is still up in the air

Rylan Clark-Neal says the future of Celebrity Big Brother remains up in the air.

The upcoming series - which begins on Thursday night - could be the last.

Although there's been rumours that Channel 5 have axed the show, Bit On The Side's Rylan insists no decision has been made yet.

And he thinks that show bosses would be "crazy" to drop the programme after almost 20 years on UK TV.

He said: "I think it would be crazy if Channel 5 got rid of Big Brother. Rather than lose the original reality show, why not make the original reality show the best again?"

Speaking to The Sun's TV Magazine, Rylan continued: "There is no secret that this is the end of Channel 5's three-year deal but hopefully they'll still want it. It has been a worry for me, not only because it's my job, but because I love the show.

"It's a massive part of my life and I know it can be even better with the right TLC. I'd do everything in my power to make sure CBB and the civilian BB are still on the air."

Rylan vowed: "I will fight to the death to make sure it never goes away. If I had the money and owned the channel, I would buy the programme and film it in my garden."

There has been speculation that the show could well move channels if it is axed by Channel 5, or even end up on Netflix.

"Regardless of where it goes, I would love to be a part of it," Rylan said. "The show changed my life - I got a career and a husband from it. But it's not my decision.

"Even if BB stays on Channel 5, what's to say they will keep me or Emma Willis? I have said from day one that I will never walk away unless I am sack. Maybe I will be... who knows?

For now, the latest series of Celebrity Big Brother begins on Thursday evening with a brand new 'Eye Of The Storm' theme.

They explained: "All of the celebrity names entering the house will have been caught up in their own media storm. And now, the celebrities are once again putting themselves in the public eye and this time they have a lot to prove."

Main show host Emma has revealed she knows who's going in and thinks the new theme will make for an 'interesting' series.

Emma said: "When I heard a few of the names of the celebs coming on this year my jaw hit the floor! I think the theme is interesting because it is the eye of the storm so from what I believe we will see people who themselves have been in the eye of the storm be that either on the receiving or giving end.

"What will be really interesting is seeing the other side of the stories that we’ve not heard before."

Celebrity Big Brother begins on Channel 5 at 9PM on Thursday, August 16. Bit On The Side airs nightly on Channel 5 with Rylan.
