Georgia Steel and Sam Bird quit the show after refusing to recouple up.

After being voted in the bottom three couples in a public vote, Georgia and Sam faced a tough decision in Monday night’s show.

Host Caroline Flack revealed that they would have to decide whether to stay together and leave the villa, or split up and stay.

“You cannot stay on Love Island as a couple,” she said. “It’s a huge decision, it’s either split up and remain in the villa or stay together and leave. If you decide to split up, you can’t be with each other.

“If you decide to stay as a couple, you will leave immediately without returning to the villa.”

Having made the difficult decision to split at the Beach Club on Monday, tonight Sam and Georgia faced the consequences of their actions, when news of a recoupling his the villa.

A text announced: “Islanders, tonight there will be a recoupling. Georgia and Sam will pick first. The remaining boys will then choose who they want to couple up with #freshstart #bagabae”

At the recoupling, Sam said: “I don’t think Georgia’s fully understood what is about to happen. This is the recoupling. It’s all well and good splitting up and being single and talking to other people but if the people we’ve been talking to is nothing like what we had, then what are we doing?”

Georgia added: “I’m really nervous for recoupling. It’s the first recoupling that I haven’t felt excitement. The boy I want to pick, I can’t pick. Awful.”

The pair decided to refuse to recouple and instead left the villa together.

Sam said: “I feel like I’ve been completely true to myself and my feelings. I feel like me getting into a new couple when I didn’t want to would be an ungenuine thing to do and would have been unfair on the person I was coupling up with. I found my girl and it was the right time to leave and put it out to her that I wasn’t happy.

“I’ve left with my head held high and a smile on my face. It wasn’t a sad moment.”

Georgia added: “I think leaving the villa is obviously a really sad time. I had a little family in there that grew for two months. However, I do feel like it was the right time for me to leave. If I’d stayed and recoupled with a new boy, I would have started to be disloyal and I wouldn’t have been genuine, and would have been going against everything that I am.

“I would have been staying in there for all the wrong reasons hence why Sam and I left together. I went into Love Island to have a bit of fun and meet someone. I’ve done both of those things and I’ve left with my head held high.”

Love Island 2018 airs tonight at 9PM on ITV2.
