Unknown to the Islanders, Charlie & Hayley and Alex & Samira were put up for the public vote last night after each of the couples nominated in private.

In this evening’s show, host Caroline Flack dropped in to reveal the twist – and the results of the public vote.

With the most votes from viewers to stay in the villa, Alex and Samira were saved leaving Charlie and Hayley to go home.

In the episode, Caroline entered the villa and told the Islanders to gather at the fire pit.

She said: “I’m sure you are all wondering why I’m here.”

“As you know, yesterday you all voted for who you thought were the least compatible couples. The couples who received the most votes risk being dumped from the Island tonight. Please can you all stand up.”

She continued: “I’m now going to reveal which couples are safe and who therefore will keep their place in the villa.”

One by one, Caroline revealed the couples who are safe. She listed off Josh and Georgia, then Jack and Dani. Thirdly, she revealed Wes and Laura will be staying in the villa, then Adam and Rosie.

“The fifth and final couple safe is Eyal and Megan,” Caroline revealed.

Caroline said: “So Alex and Samira, Charlie and Hayley, your fellow Islanders judged you as the least compatible couples. All of you are now vulnerable but only one couple will leave the villa tonight. The public have been voting for who they want to save.”

It was tense in the villa as the Islanders eagerly await the result.

“The couple with the most votes is staying on the Island. The other couple will be dumped immediately… I can tell you the couple with the most votes who will therefore continue their Love Island journey is… Alex and Samira.”

Love Island 2018 airs nightly at 9PM on ITV2.
