MTV have renewed hit series Geordie Shore for a second series despite complaints from Newcastle locals. The reality show, which follows the antics of a group of Geordie flatmates, has become one of MTV's biggest hits in years with more than 400,000 viewers tuning in last week.

The show's first series, which airs at 10PM on Tuesdays, concludes this week. Despite the criticsm form locals and complaints made to TV watchdog Ofcom, the group of loud mouthed Geordies are set to return for a second series later this year.

Cast member and 'party animal' Sophie told the Daily Star: “It’s been pretty bad on Twitter and Facebook at the moment because people think we are making Geordies look shit but we aren’t.

“We are not disgusting little tramps. We are about glitz and glamour. We are putting the glamour back in Newcastle.”

However the second series could well feature less drunken antics, after the group were blacklisted from some of Newcastle's top bars over fears the show would give the area a bad reputation. “Geordie Shore has been MTV’s biggest ratings hit ever. It’s TV gold," an MV source inssited.

“A lot of people thought it would get axed because it has caused so much outrage but that’s even more reason to bring it back.”

Meanwhile Geordie hunk Gaz Beadle said: “It’s got lots of drama, fighting, sex and carnage. Geordie Shore is a lot more fun because it’s real, unlike Made In Chelsea or TOWIE.”
