Britain’s Got Talent comic hits back at claims he ‘copied’ his routine from Peter Kay

Britain’s Got Talent comedian Ben Langley has defended his act after criticism.

As auditions for the new series continued on Saturday, we met comedian Ben and his lyrical lols.

He had the Britain’s Got Talent judges in stitches at the weekend.

Ben told the judges: “It all started when I went to see the Lion King.

“I must have misheard something because I thought the first song was about the Arsenal club football manager.”

“And I thought maybe there are other songs where you can hear they’re singing something different.”

Ben then revealed his list of misheard lyrics, along with some unique dance moves.

Songs given the misheard lyric treatment by Ben included Dancing Queen by Abba, Just Dance by Lady GaGa, Start Me Up by The Rolling Stones, Flashdance (What A Feeling) by Irene Cara and I’m Every Woman by Chaka Khan plus I Want It That Way by Backstreet Boys.

However some viewers accused Ben of ‘ripping off’ his routine from Peter Kay.

Messages on Twitter claimed Ben had taken his idea from Peter’s own show.

But Ben has hit back, telling OK! Magazine: “I have been performing my misheard lyrics routine for 10 years, so before Peter Kay did his, I regularly update mine with new lyrics I have misheard.

“I love Peter Kay and think his routine is absolutely fantastic, he’s an outstanding comedian.”

Not too surprisingly, misheard lyrics jokes long pre-date Peter Kay.

A similar gag was used as far back as the 1980s in a famous TV advert for cassette tapes.

After his routine, the judges gave Ben four yeses through to the next round.
