Love Island planning huge new twist to this summer’s series

Love Island bosses are planning a big new twist to this summer’s series.

Season 4 of Love Island won’t start for a while but already plans are underway to make it the biggest show to date.

After receiving a whopping 60,000 applications for the show within 12 hours, producers are planning an epic new twist.

“Given just how massively popular the show became last year they’re desperate to make sure the next series really kicks off with a bang,” a source explained today.

They told The Sun newspaper: “They’re planning on the season opener beginning with two big villas – just like they introduced midway through last series.

“And they want to throw in nearly double the amount of contestants to really stir things up.

“Planning is still in the early stages but what is for sure is that it’s going to be bigger than ever.”

Love Island has proved a huge hit for ITV, growing in viewers every single week its aired from the start of the first series in 2015.

The 2017 had over 3 million viewers, making it ITV2’s joint-biggest show ever to air.

The show, which sees sexy singletons searching for love in a sunshine paradise, generated numerous watercooler moments in 2017, with the exploits of couples including Kem and Amber, Camilla and Jamie and Olivia and Chris keeping viewers gripped throughout the Summer.

Confirming a fourth season, Head of Digital Channels & Acquisitions Paul Mortimer said: “At ITV2, we couldn’t be more thrilled with how Love Island fever has gripped the nation.

“Now established as the perfect series to start the summer, we’re delighted to be bringing the show back for our young adult audience in 2018.”

ITV Studios’ Creative Director for Entertainment, Richard Cowles, added: “We are delighted that viewers have embraced Love Island so wholeheartedly; it has become the most talked about show of the summer.”

Love Island is hosted by Caroline Flack and typically begins at the start of June.
