CBB's Jess Impiazzi's cucumber salmonella story was actually right

Jess Impiazzi was mocked in the Celebrity Big Brother house yesterday for suggesting cucumber can carry salmonella.

However it turns out she was right.

The glamour model was laughed at by fellow housemates Amanda Barrie, Ann Widdecombe and Andrew Brady when she spoke of her cucumber fear.

Jess said she had avoided eating the vegetable after stories of them being recalled over salmonella fears.

The other housemates laughed at the suggestion, with salmonella typically associated with animal products such as meat, eggs and dairy.

But Jess was in fact correct with what she said.

Over the years there have been a number of salmonella outbreaks linked to cucumbers, including one in America in 2015 which left people dead.

"A batch of "killer cucumbers" has been recalled after hundreds of people contracted salmonella in America," reported The Telegraph at the time. "One woman has died and another 285 people fell ill after eating the cucumbers. "

It's understood the vegetables carried the disease after being washed in contaminated water.

Viewers were quick to support Jess after she was proven right online.

"I knew she was right, I remember it too but all the housemates where laughing at her like she’s a child. She obviously has a better memory than them," one viewer wrote.

In the house, and after being laughed at by the other housemates, Jess backtracked and said she may have been mistaken.

The Ex On The Beach star went on to then suggest the cucumbers had instead been infected with gonorrhea, a sexually transmitted disease.

That claim does appear to be a lot less true...

Celebrity Big Brother continues nightly on Channel 5.
