Just 1.4 million viewers tuned in to last night’s Celebrity Big Brother 2018 highlights.
It follows the least watched launch to a winter series of the Channel 5 show.
In what has been named ‘Year Of The Women’, CBB’s latest run begun with a female only cast on Tuesday night.
Those making up the line up include former MP Ann Widdecombe, Keeping Up With The Kardashians star Malika Haqq, Boris Johnson’s sister Rachel Johnson, Ex On The Beach star Jess Impiazzi and actress Amanda Barrie.
They’re joined by Made In Chelsea’s Ashley James, newsreader India Willoughby and former Detective Constable Maggie Oliver, known for her work investigating the Rochdale grooming scandal.
An average of 2.1 million viewers watched the launch, the lowest rating for a January series of the show.
That number dropped by a third last night as the risky new twist seemed to backfire.
Wednesday night’s CBB ratings were down around 500,000 viewers on last year’s first highlights and 800,000 on 2016.
In the 9PM hour, ITV came out on top with new drama Girlfriends attracting 5.2 million viewers BBC One had 2.8 million for Miriam’s Big American Adventure. CBB’s figure was below even Homes Under the Hammer on BBC One at 10AM.
The current cast of eight women will be joined by a number of male housemates from Friday night.
There will be two live shows as the series gets fully underway, but whether or not numbers will improve remains to be seen.
Rumoured to be entering are footballer John Barnes, Love Island’s Jonny Mitchell, Boyzone’s Shane Lynch, US rapper Ginuwine, The Apprentice’s Andrew Brady and Made In Chelsea’s Spencer Matthews.
Celebrity Big Brother 2018 continues nightly at 9PM on Channel 5.
