After almost six months together, the couple called it a day earlier this month just before Christmas.

“With sadness, we’ve decided to separate,” they said in a joint statement. “We fell in love in the villa and want to thank all the fans of the show for supporting us.

“Our schedules made it difficult. We’ll remain good friends.”

Amber and Kem won Series 3 of ITV2’s Love Island in the summer and ended up sharing the £50,000 prize fund.

Speaking out for the first time about the split, Kem said the pair’s separation was an amicable one.

He told the Guardian: “It’s never gonna be a completely normal relationship, but we did try. We just did normal things like date nights, spending time with my family, and watching Christmas films together.

“I like to start watching Christmas films early – from November at least!”

He continued: “It ended on good terms. I know a lot of relationships end badly, but I think if you care about someone it should be done in the proper way. We’re still close to each other’s families.

“And I always make sure I keep an eye on whatever she’s doing. I think we were at different stages in our lives and careers. I constantly wanted to do more. I think she kinda just wanted to relax.”

Amber recently spoke out on her own Twitter account: “Would just like to say I am incredibly overwhelmed by everyone’s lovely messages and comments.

“The love and support from you all has been absolutely heartwarming. Thank you so much.”

The pair’s split comes as Kem prepares for a brand new TV challenge, taking part in the new series of ITV’s Dancing On Ice next year.
