Craig made his first appearance of the series on BBC Two spin-off It Takes Two tonight to speak all about this year’s cast.

And overall, Craig was very impressed with the celebrities after three weeks.

“I am loving them, I think they’re all sensational. Real characters, I love all the new pros too, it’s love, love, love,” he told host Zoe Ball.

Craig named Aston as the one to watch right now, explaining: “For me, it’s Aston and Janette. He is so clean, he is crisp. Every move he makes, it’s really, really clear.

“It’s amazing it’s at this particular level at this point in the competition. Janette I know really does crack the whip. She wants perfection and in Aston she had a good body to work with. It all comes together.”

Meanwhile, Craig went on to explain just what the ’10 second rule’ was that saw him mark Debbie McGee’s Quickstep down at the weekend.

“A lot of people have been breaking it,” Craig said, “And I have been giving them some leeway but [in Debbie’s routine] it went on too long.

“I loved the routine but I didn’t create the rules. They’re only allowed 10 seconds at the beginning, 10 seconds at the end and 10 seconds in the middle out of hold.”

Finally, on new judge Shirley Ballas, Craig praised: “She’s fitting in very well. She’s fantastic, she knows her onions. She’s calls a spade a spade and in my book that’s very good.”
