The winner of X Factor’s 2008 series turned West End star scored the highest marks of the series last Saturday night, but it almost went very wrong.

Alex and pro partner Gorka Marquez danced the Paso Doble to ‘Ven a Bailar by Jennifer Lopez.

“In the dress run, not many people know this but we really did butt heads. I was left with a massive cut lip,” Alex revealed in a chat on It Takes Two this week.

She added: “We were that into it! We were so passionate into doing just the dress run because we had our clothes on. Well, not so much me!”

Reflecting on the actual live performance, Alexandra told host of the BBC Two spin-off Zoe Ball: “It definitely was as good.

“I just remember, like, going on the stage. It was 30 seconds to air. I just stared at [Gorka]. I felt like something came into my system. The next thing you know I was out of breath.”

Bruno Tonioli, Darcey Bussell, Shirley Ballas and even Craig Revel Horwood (albeit after some encouragement) got to their feet for after the performance.

The routine won the pair 9s from each of the four judges to win the biggest score of the 2017 run to date.

However it wasn’t enough to help the pair top the leaderboard, with the week’s marks added to first week’s to determine the overall standing.

Alex had a total of 60 points after scoring 24 for her Waltz to place her third on the overall scoreboard.

This evening, Alexandra and Gorka will dance the American Smooth to Wouldn’t It Be Loverly from My Fair Lady as part of the movie themed weekend.
