44-year-old insurance processor Amrick Channa – nicknamed Diva – from Kent opened up the show this evening by declaring himself the next big superstar.

His performance of Technotronic’s Pump Up The Jam had Nicole Scherzinger singing along but it split the panel.

Simon Cowell told him: “You are an old school diva. I’m slightly torn, I liked the song, I did like the voice but the image bothers me as much as I like you, I’m going to say no.”

However with the other judges all saying yes, Amrick was through to the next round.

It was more successful result compared to his blind audition on The Voice UK three years ago.

Amrick had performed Pride (A Deeper Love)’ by C+C Music Factory for the coaches on the then BBC One series.

But none of Will.i.am, Sir Tom Jones, Ricky Wilson nor Kylie Minogue pressed their buzzers to turn around.

But even The Voice wasn’t Amrick’s first telly appearance. He’s also taken part in Come Dine With Me and Ant and Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway, where he won £500 in a competition.

Meanwhile, other acts on The X Factor tonight included two returnees.

Tracy Leanne Jefford previously auditioned for The X Factor back in 2006 where she also made bootcamp. Having lost over 5 stone and gone through a divorce her life is very different but her passion for singing remains.

And Nicole Simpson was also back having previously made bootcamp in 2011.

Meanwhile, more contestants we met included nervous youngster 17 -year-old student Benji Matthews who endears himself to the judges with his adorable giggle before even singing, while 68-year-old Ronnie Parker is the oldest contestant of the night, singing Tina Turner’s Simply The Best.
