Great British Bake Off 2017 dipped below 6 million viewers last night.

An average of 5.7 million viewers tuned in for the latest episode, falling 300,000 week on week and down 800,000 on the launch show.

However it was still a huge rating, both for Channel 4 and in general, with Bake Off the third most watched show of the day.

It was revealed earlier this week that the first episode of the new series had achieved a total audience of more than nine million once catch up viewers were added.

C4’s chief creative officer Jay Hunt previously said the show would break even with just 3 million viewers.

She previously praised the opening numbers: “The Great British Bake Off’s audience last night proves it’s still one of the country’s favourite shows.

“I am delighted millions watched the new team put 12 magnificent bakers through their paces. It’s the largest share of young audiences we’ve had for a show for over a decade.”

Elsewhere last night, Bake Off was beaten by Doctor Foster which had 6.1 million viewers on BBC One from 9PM, a slight drop from last week’s opening episode.

EastEnders was the most watched show of the night with 6.2 million viewers while Emmerdale had 5.5 million on ITV.
