Celebrity Island 2017 contestant Shazia Mirza has spoken about her “horrific” experience on the show.
Comedian Shazia Mirza is one of 10 celebs who signed up for the new series of The Celebrity Island with Bear Grylls which began last month.
They were dumped on a remote, inhabited Island by Bear with a few tools and told to fend for themselves, filming everything that happened.
“It was terrifying, a truly horrific experience,” Shazia recalled. “It was really, really bad and there was nothing and no-one to help us.”
Dismissing the idea the show was fake, Shazia said: “People think there was someone off screen ready with some crisps but we really didn’t. We didn’t get any help at all and it was very, very difficult.”
Speaking to the Birmingham Mail, Shazia recalled one incident in particular: “One night we experienced a mini-tsunami and we were sheltering in a ditch with palm fronds over us.
“I called it the Vietnam War because it was like what I’ve seen on films. We may not have had people shooting at us but we had coconuts falling on our heads.
“We’d been told to radio the SAS on a neighbouring island in an emergency, but the weather was so bad we couldn’t get a signal.
“We really were in terrible trouble.”
In tonight’s show, Shazia is seen falling on rocks in a nasty fishing accident.
“The currents were really strong and I was swept from rock to rock. Then I cut my foot on a massive sea urchin,” she explained.
The latest episode of the Celebrity Island with Bear Grylls airs tonight at 9:15PM on Channel 4 following the Great British bake Off.
Celebs currently still living on The Island alongside Shazia after the two weeks are Olympian & broadcaster Iwan Thomas, Actor & Rizzle Kicks singer Jordan Stephens, comedian Mark Watson and Actor Ryan Thomas.
They’re joined by Former TOWIE star Lucy Mecklenburgh, Olympian & TV presenter Sharron Davies, Former Pussycat Doll Melody Thornton and TV doctor Sara Kayat.
