Bobby Bethell previously dated Tyla when the pair appeared on another reality dating series, Channel 4's First Dates.
While they hit it off on screen, Bobby says things fizzled out between them after the show.
"We got on really well but she went quiet on me," he said this week. "I was a bit gutted when it died between us but she's coming across well [on Love Island].
"The impression I get from the guys is that none of them are that into her, though."
Speaking to Star magazine, Bobby went on to claim that Tyla hoped reality TV would provide her with a path to fame.
He accused: "Tyla wants to be famous. She's been on other shows and auditioned for a lot of stuff. She even has an agent! She says she's an aspiring model, but I think that's just to get on reality TV."
Bobby added: "She's a bit of a people-pleaser and she seems conscious of the cameras so I think she'll try to keep everyone happy."
As for Tyla herself, speaking before entering the show she said: "I reckon I’m a serial dater –. I’ve been on so many dates I ran out of men in a 100 mile radius.
"I love going on a first date, although they don’t usually last longer than that as I end up being picky.
"And I find when I do let my guard down I end up meeting guys who aren’t that great."
And she declared: "I think I broke all their hearts. I’ve had my heart broken once but nine times out of ten I’m the decision maker."
Love Island 2017 continues nightly at 9PM on ITV2.
