Pitch Battle results! Portsmouth University Gospel Choir win fourth heat to make the final

Pitch Battle: Portsmouth University Gospel Choir

Portsmouth University Gospel Choir have won the fourth heat of BBC One's new singing competition Pitch Battle.

The performers from the south coast came out on top of the six groups in tonight's fourth show, winning themselves a spot in the live final where the winners will win £50,000.

Hosted by Mel Giedroyc, each week in Pitch Battle six choirs and vocal groups of all different sizes and musical genres battle it out for a place in the Grand Final.

To progress the groups must impress the panel of musical judges – the nation’s favourite choirmaster Gareth Malone, former choirgirl turned international recording artist Kelis and for this week, guest judge multi-platinum selling artist Seal.

In the first round, two groups went head to head by first performing on their own and then competing in a themed riff off.

Here's how those results panned out tonight:

The Bristol Suspensions v Over The Water
Riff-off theme: Foreign Languages
Winner: The Bristol Suspensions

Perfect 6th v The Savannahs
Riff-off theme: Sunshine
Winner: Perfect 6th

Portsmouth University Gospel Choir v Vocal-i-sing
Riff-off theme: Angry Break Ups
Winner: Portsmouth University Gospel Choir

The three winning groups - The Bristol Suspensions, Portsmouth University Gospel Choir and Perfect 6th - then each performed in the solo battles, with one singer from each group taking the lead on a song.

The judges then eliminated The Bristol Suspensions leaving Perfect 6th and Portsmouth University Gospel Choir to progress to the final battle.

Here they shared the same song - Kiss From A Rose - before this week’s guest judge Seal joined in with the group the judges have chosen to go through to the Grand Final.

That group was the Portsmouth University Gospel Choir, who are now into the live final at the end of the series. They join Scot Soul, All The Kings Men and Leeds Contemporary Singers in the final so far.

Seal will return in the Grand Final to sing with the show’s winning group who will be one step closer to the £50,000 cash prize.

Pitch Battle continues next Saturday night with the fifth and final heat featuring six brand new groups.
