Paul Hollywood says that the Great British Bake Off on Channel 4 is set to be better than ever.

The show is switching channels in a controversial move from the BBC later this year.

Mary Berry has been replaced by Prue Leith while Noel Fielding and Sandi Toksvig will host instead of Mel and Sue.

Much has been said of the upcoming Channel 4 version already but Paul says it's all about the bakers - who are ten times better than compared to the BBC.

"The presenters are on for about five minutes and the bakers are on there for 50 minutes, so they are the stars of the show," he said. “The characters on this year’s show are the strongest we have had and the standard is ten times higher.

“People get wrapped up in all this ‘host and judges’ thing too much. They forget that it’s all about the bakers.”

Speaking to The Sun, Paul went on to dismiss any worries of the new team replicating the success of the BBC line up.

“I had tears rolling down my face because of how funny Noel and Sandi are, so I wasn’t really that sad in the end," he said.

This week Channel 4 denied reports that there had been tension on set between the judges and hosts.

A Channel 4 spokesperson said: "The Great British Bake Off team get on brilliantly and together have all the ingredients for a show-stopping series."

The show will return for its eighth run later this year.
