It was a mixed bag of results in the ratings last night, and the hottest day of the year certainly didn't help.

Yesterday evening saw the return of Blind Date as the hit show made a comeback after it was last on air.

Now airing on Channel 5 and hosted by Paul O'Grady, the show averaged a strong 1.8 million from 7PM, making it easily one of the channel's biggest hits.

Blind Date got a head start on two rival singing shows as BBC One launched Pitch Battle at 7:30PM against The Voice Kids.

Pitch Battle lost the war with just 2 million viewers for its opening episode, a rather dismal rating and more than 4 million below what Gary Barlow's Let It Shine began with at the start of the year.

The Voice Kids on the other hand averaged 3.2 million viewers on ITV for its second blind auditions episode, down 1.1 million on last week's launch.

Meanwhile, Doctor Who dropped to a series low of 2.9 million viewers - down 700,000 on last Saturday - for its latest episode before Casualty continued with 3.8 million, down 100,000 on last week.

Finally, over on Channel 5, a dramatic episode of Big Brother failed to do anything for the ratings with just 800,000 watching Saturday night's highlights as one housemate was kicked out of the house.
