Big Brother 2017 is now underway but many viewers aren't happy with the opening twist.

This year, Big Brother has introduced the 'People's Housemate'.

After being voted into the house by viewers on launch night, Tom Barber will have regular contact with the outside world to get an insight into his fellow housemates.

Rylan Clark-Neal revealed yesterday evening (Tuesday) that he'd be chatting to Tom during bit On The Side tonight.

As the People's Housemate, Tom also has a lot of decisions to make which have already caused tensions in the house.

His first decision was to pick which half of the housemates to 'exile' from the United Kingdom of Big Brother, leaving them at risk of eviction on Friday night.

In Tuesday's show, Tom took part in a Facebook Live session where viewers at home helped him to make important decisions that will affect the house. He had to select eight housemates to be exiled to an inferior life in the house, who are also at risk of eviction on Friday.

Tom was quick to relay the public's views on the housemates to the group, which got Chanelle angry after Tom told her viewers found her annoying and loud.

The whole twist goes against one of Big Brother's core principles that housemates have no contact with the outside world, and the move has left many fans unhappy.

"Doesn't Tom having contact with the outside world defeat the purpose of big brother," one pointed out during last night's show.

A second remarked: "Is this really #bbuk we are watching, so much interference and outside contact already"

Another suggested at least: "IF Tom is getting outside info, he should be banned from passing it on to other housemates #BBUK
