Big Brother 2017 is now underway and here's all the latest in our first morning update of the series.

Last night saw 16 brand new Big Brother 2017 housemates join the house for this year's summer series in the live launch show.

One of those housemates was Tom Barber, who was voted in by the public in a twist, becoming the 'People's Housemate'.

As The People's Housemate, Tom has special powers including the ability to communicate with viewers. He first exercised this power in a Facebook live chat last night to get fans' opinions on the new housemates.

It was revealed that Tom will soon decide which of the other housemates to 'exile' from the United Kingdom of Big Brother, putting them at risk from the first live eviction on Friday night.

Tom's power has already started to cause tensions in the house, revealing to some of the other housemates that Raph had said he would be playing a game on his entrance VT.

Meanwhile, just hours into the show, a drunk Arthur went on the rampage in the garden. He first stripped to his boxers before jumping in the pool and then destroyed Big Brother's mannequins.

Elsewhere, our first Big Brother poll of the series is open - who is your VERY early favourite of the new housemates? Vote here!

And finally, in ratings news, Big Brother last night launched to 1.3 million viewers - matching Love Island on ITV2.

Big Brother 2017 continues nightly on Channel 5.
