Big Brother 2017 housemates reveal they were 'scouted on Facebook'

At least two of the Big Brother 2017 housemates have revealed they didn't apply for the show.

Tonight's live launch saw a total of 16 housemates enter the new British themed house as Big Brother's eighteenth series kicked off.

They included the 'People's Housemate' Tom Barber, who confessed he was approached by producers.

"I got a message on Facebook," he told fellow housemate Lotan Carter. “I was in Marbella, mate."

And when Tom asked Lotan if he applied, Lotan admitted he didn't either.

One unhappy fan reacted on Twitter: "Tom and Lotan both just said they didn't apply to be on #bbuk, they were approached. Yup that's me done. @bbuk @bbspy"

Another added: "Pretty sure Tom said he didnt even apply for #bbuk and that he was messaged on Facebook?!? So what's the point in asking people to apply?? "

A spokesperson for Big Brother said: "Housemates are discovered in various ways and have to go through the selection process."

Tom was voted into the house tonight by the public after a launch night twist.

He was one of four 'candidates' that fans were asked to decide between to enter the house and become the 'People's Housemate'.

Channel 5 has since revealed that Tom isn’t afraid to splash the cash and lives a shamelessly flash lifestyle, he spends all his money on showing off in night clubs. He his own night club because his Grandad gave it to him. He regularly DJ’s at his club and sees himself as a entrepreneur.
