Half of the Big Brother 2017 housemates will face the first eviction this Friday night.

One unlucky housemate will get the boot just days after entering in this evening's launch show, not even spending a week inside.

The new twist followed on from a Big Brother first in this evening's launch show, where Big Brother handed over power to the public to help pick the housemates.

After 15 housemates were revealed, one final housemate position was put up for grabs which was decided by viewers in tonight’s live launch from a selection of candidates.

Tom Barber from Swansea was chosen to enter the house as the People's Housemate. The People’s Housemate will hold great power within the house, even having access to the outside world.

Tom will have regular contact with the Great British Public who will assist him in making some important decisions that will impact the other housemates.

Shortly, Tom will have his first contact to the outside world - chatting to viewers via a Facebook live video from 11:35PM - before making a tough decision.

He must decide on which half of the housemates to 'exile from the United Kingdom of Big Brother'. These housemates will be at risk in the first eviction of the series on Friday.

As for Tom himself, Big Brother have revealed more details about the 21-year-old nightclub owner.

Tom isn’t afraid to splash the cash and lives a shamelessly flash lifestyle, he spends all his money on showing off in night clubs. He his own night club because his Grandad gave it to him. He regularly DJ’s at his club and sees himself as a entrepreneur.

His family own a house in Marbella, were he goes there regularly throughout the year, as well to Ibiza where he lives up to his party boy reputation.

Big Brother 2017 continues nightly on Channel 5.
