The first details of Big Brother 2017 this summer have been revealed today.

Channel 5 has teased that the new series will be going political.

"This summer, Big Brother presents a must-watch culture clash of modern Britain," the channel teased in a release this morning.

They added: "At a time of political upheaval and tough questions about unity in the UK, Big Brother brings you an alternative look at Britain."

Big Brother 2017 promises to be a "summer of contrasts, conflicts and collaboration… and more fireworks than you could imagine, as a selection of people, from a range of backgrounds, come together in the ultimate social experiment.

"The United Kingdom of Big Brother… and everyone is welcome."

The news follows the unveiling of a VERY British themed Big Brother eye.

Based on the Union flag, the eye features a number of iconic British landmarks, public figures and themes, from cups of tea and polling booths to phone boxes and, err, Rylan's teeth.

The first details about this summer's Big Brother come after rumours of a potential pairs twist.

Auditions for Big Brother 2017 took place earlier this year, inviting only duos to apply in a first for the show.

Bit On The Side's Rylan Cark-Neal said previously: “I can say that we were looking for pairs but I can’t say any more than that.

"Whether that means there’s only going to be pairs, or there’s going to be singles, I’ve got no idea. I mean I have, but I’m not telling you.”

Big Brother will launch on Channel 5 this summer with a launch expected in early June.
