Len stepped down from Strictly Come Dancing ahead of last year’s series and as yet the BBC hasn’t officially named a replacement.
Screen tests were reportedly held at the Strictly studio in Elstree last month with both some familiar and surprising faces.
The likes of pro dancers Anton Du Beke and Brendan Cole both tried out as did former professional former and It Takes Two regular Karen Hardy.
Others who auditioned included Ireland’s Dancing with the Stars judges Loraine Barry and Brian Redmond as well as Strictly's current head choreographer Jason Gilkison.
But The Sun newspaper reports that ballroom dancer Shirley Ballas - who's son Mark Ballas is a pro dancer on the American version of Strictly - proved to be the standout of the unaired try outs.
The news has seen her odds of replacing Len plummet into 3/1 from 20/1 following the reports.
The Ballroom Giant, Gary Edwards, still heads the betting at even money, or it's a 2/1 chance housewives' favourite Anton du Beke replaces Len Goodman on the panel this year.
Jessica Bridge of Ladbrokes said: "Len's shoes are big ones to fill, but all the interest is with Shirley, and if the bets keep coming in it won't be long before she's the clear favourite."
