Britain's Got Talent 2017 has been inundated with magic acts after Richard Jones won last year's show.

Richard became the first ever magician to win the series in 2016 although host Ant and Dec say they don't think it's going to happen again.

Dec told the Daily Mirror newspaper: “We got a lot of magicians. It is that thing where whatever act won the year before, you get a glut of. There are too many bad ones.

“We always ask that question before they go on, ‘A magician won last year, are you better?’ and it’s buzzer, buzzer, buzzer. There was a lot of close-up magic and I don’t think lightning is gonna strike twice.”

Meanwhile, Richard told the Radio Times magazine that BGT was a difficult ask for any magician.

He explained: “You only get about two and a half minutes which is such an issue with magic because really you like to tell a story, build it up and then perform something at the end of it. But two and a half minutes is no time at all.”

And although performing live was super risky, Richard admitted it gave him a rush.

He said: “Obviously you’ve got so many variables that you’ve got to try and keep in line As a magician, you’ll never be under more pressure than performing live in front of millions of people on live TV.

“And the fact that it’s a competition, there’s so much pressure on it. But I love the pressure, I think it’s great. I think it’s probably part of me being in the army. I love the adrenaline rush of being under pressure and out of my comfort zone.”

Britain's Got Talent 2017 starts this Saturday night, April 15, at 8PM on ITV.
