The Voice UK finalist Michelle John has opened up about being the victim of domestic abuse.
The Team Will singer has told how music is a "healing process" for her after suffering in a nasty relationship.
Michelle spoke candidly to the Daily Star on Sunday: “I went through a relationship where I experienced domestic violence and that knocked my confidence for a long time. It was verbal and physical.
“It took me a long time to be able to gather the strength to leave and to be able to say to myself ‘I’m something of value’.”
Speaking to the tabloid last month, she added: “I’m a survivor and a fighter. The things I’ve been through make me the person I am today. It doesn’t have to define you.
“It never leaves you, but you can channel that emotion into other things and I do that with my singing.
“When I sing it’s my way of allowing my emotions to come out. It’s a healing process for me. I feel at peace to express myself.”
Michelle wowed with a big number in last week's live show, seeing her voted through to tonight's grand final.
This evening will see Michelle singing live again in a bid to make the final three in Sunday's episode.
She said: “Being on the stage is my way of saying what I went through hasn’t defined me. I wasn’t going to allow it to keep me broken. I owed it to myself to try.”
The Voice UK continues Saturday night on ITV at 8:30PM and concludes at 7PM on Sunday.
