The Voice UK 2017's Abi Phillips has revealed how she quit Hollyoaks to pursue her music career.

Show seven of this year's The Voice UK will see hopeful Abi trying to win over the coaches with a performance of Little Big Town's Girl Crush.

The 22-year-old from the West Midlands appeared on Channel 4 soap Hollyoaks between 2010 up until 2013 where her character Liberty Savage was written out.

Abi is now ready to move away from her soapland character and step into the spotlight as herself.

Abi left the show to pursue her musical dreams and armed with her guitar she is ready to show our Coaches what she’s made of.

“One day I was doing my GCSEs and the next I’m on Hollyoaks – I just wasn’t expecting it at all," Abi admitted about landing her TV role.

“I really enjoyed Hollyoaks and really did appreciate it but I didn’t love it as much as my music," she said ahead of her audition. “And I kind of felt like it was time to try and do the thing I really love doing.

“I’ve been working so hard to do my music for such a long time."

Abi admitted she wanted to "leave acting behind" in her pursuit of a music career.

“I’d really love to prove to myself that I was right to follow my heart and do something I love and leave acting behind," she told The Sun newspaper. “I just really hope that that was the right choice.”

The Voice UK 2017 airs tonight at 8PM on ITV.
